There is a Shaking Coming: Part 2

What remains after the shaking inherits the blessing

Hebrews 11:5 KJV

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he  pleased God.

Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Hebrews 11:10

For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

Moses refused to enjoy the pleasures of sin just to be called Pharaoh’s son but instead suffered the reproach of Christ.

V 5 My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

The reason He chastens in love is because He wants us to receive the promises.

Hebrews 12:18-24 ESV

18 For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest 19 and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. 20 For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” 21 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and  to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Psalms 48:1-2 KJV

1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. 2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Psalms 2:6

Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

Lets explain Zion: literally, it is one mountain amongst 7 in Jerusalem but spiritually, it’s so much more

This holy hill, this mountain of God, the city of the King… these are terms used to describe Jerusalem, which is where God has chosen to put His presence in the OT. This is the place that He declared war against the forces of evil as He takes this earth back one step at a time. The Lord is looking for property, a base of operations from which He mounts His attacks against evil and takes back what the devil stole. He is looking for you and me to not just show up but to worship Him because He is worthy. To pray because He moves through our prayers. To study His word, so that we can understand, put faith in and walk in the victory that this New Covenant He gave us with His blood offers. In all this, He wants us to understand that we are privileged to be able to serve Him.

He is working His way from the temporary and the physical. He is working His way towards the spiritual and eternal. This heavenly Zion that He speaks of is the city that Abraham was looking for. It’s the place that Enoch was brought to because he separated from the wickedness of the pre flood world. It’s the place that Noah was looking forward to when he built the arc in order to give the human race an opportunity to make it there.

The writer to the Hebrews is pleading with these believers not to quit. They’re being tempted to go back to their old lives of temple worship and animal sacrifices because of the persecution from their families and friends. Their choices to serve Jesus have affected their finances. The writer is saying, “Don’t give up. Without faith, it is impossible to please God!”

What about you? What old life does the enemy tempt you with?

Hebrews 12:25-29 ESV

25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom  that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

Esau didn’t worship/ serve

Hebrews 12:14-17

14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15 Looking diligently lest any  man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;  16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Matthew 27:3

Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

2 Corinthians 7:10

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

A Vineyard and the Inheritance Part 2

2 Samuel 23:9-12 He’s not distracted that his hand is cramped onto the sword. This is not the time for quitting.

9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away: 10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines. 12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

Last week Naboth’s stood his ground and refused to give up the inheritance received from his fathers. This inheritance connected to God’s promises was important enough for Naboth to die for. Everything battle you face in life is not worth dying for, but Eleanor, Shammah and Naboth knew when it was time.

Romans 8:37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Ahab and Jezebel’s approach symptomatic... the serpent deceives. The dragon takes by force. Ahab asked permission. The initial approach was not to take but to entice Naboth to yield. Satan cannot take whatever he wants. 3 problems people have spiritually:

  1. Unsaved and blindly walking towards the edge of eternal destruction.                                  Through the word

  2. Say, “I love God,” but have no desire to know Him.

  3. Know His word, just disobey—not that big a deal

Snake and a plan

Underestimated is the exercise of free will and the trickery of Satan. Satan slithers w/ his traps and tricks into position. His venom paralyzes. He wraps, squeezes and his constriction wraps and entraps. Once the trap is set it’s never as easy to get out [Psalm 91]. One last thing to say about the free will, deception and the strike. A snake repeatedly flicks its tongue many times before it ever sinks its fangs. It’s sensing both the prey and the environment. It’s sensing and adjusting as needed.

Like a snake, Satan hides his real intent until he’s ready to strike. He hides in the shadows watching our responses to situations and circumstances. Satan will put people and situations in our path to position us for the strike.

A Rat and a grape

Believer’s are not supposed to be vulnerable prey. They have access to the truth. He has the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit gives discernment. The more a person yields to the Holy Spirit and focuses on God’s truth, the more discernment they receive. The more a person yields and focuses on what life has brought, the more distracted they become—the more vulnerable they are.

Examples:

  1. Two single adults. Both desire companionship. Both love God. It starts innocent. It starts as a friendship. It starts slow. Talking turns to texting, and before you know it texting turns to kissing. And well from there not much more needs to be said. How dare you preacher. I’m an adult, and I am allowed to kiss or make out with someone if I want to! Yes, you can do what you want with your free will. That’s the point. He flicked his tongue, sensed you were ready for a nibble, the paths converged…

  2. There are a lot of people who want a new life. Tired of drugs, tired of men or vice versa, just looking for fellowship—need some good social companionship. They seek out fellowship with other believers, and end up in a church full of false doctrine. You think demons of lust are bad? You don’t want to get caught up in doctrines of devils. That serpent will slowly constrict the life out of you.

Jezebel and Ahab are types of spiritual darkness infiltrating the kingdom of God. Adam allowed the serpent into the garden, Ahab allowed Jezebel into the kingdom and Christian’s, have been known to allow darkness into their lives:

But Paul warned

KJV Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

NASB Ephesians 4:27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

NIV Ephesians 4:27 and do not give the devil a foothold.

Eleazer the son of Dodo and Shammah were examples of God’s people taking a stand against darkness, not giving into it:

Ephesians 6:10-11

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:13

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

NASB Ephesians 5:8-14 a teenage girl whispers to her friend about what her and her boyfriend did 2 nights ago

8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

Sometimes we feel too weak to stand

David’s men came to serve him before he was given His crown. When they first arrived, they looked weak and pitiful:

1 Samuel 22:1-2

1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. 2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Think about that. They were distressed and in debt. David wasn’t on the throne yet, but he was the rightful king and they came to serve him. After spending time serving him, this is how a couple of these men were described:

Eleazer’s hand grew weary in the battle, but his hand clung to his sword. Paul learned in (2 Cor 12:9) “In my weakness, His strength is made perfect.

God’s word tells us not to grow weary in well doing when everyone else ran away, in fear, God helped Eleazer grip the sword tighter.

Why you want to fight over a patch of peas Shammah? Because these peas don’t belong to the Philistines. This pea patch belongs to God, He gave it to us and the people of God don’t give up their inheritance to the devil.

If New Testament Christian’s would spend more time learning what the scriptures say, so they could believe what God says about them instead of what the world says, they, too, would become kingdom warriors:

This thing we’re seeing with Israel is big. This thing with America is big. The vineyard was big, the pea patch was big, but you do understand that there is something bigger, than the conflict in Israel and what we’re experiencing in America? The snake is flicking his tongue and he’s trying to gain an angle on people’s souls, and more than anything he wants the souls of God’s people:

Luke 17:21

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Satan wants the kingdom of God and the kingdom of God is in God’s people and people think that they’re ready, and I so hope that we are.

But just as the devil offered Adam and Eve a lie, he offers people lies today and wants them to trade their eternal inheritance for something temporary. He tried to do that to Jesus also:

Luke 4:6-8

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Satan told Jesus that the kingdoms and their glory were delivered to him, and that now, he can give them to whomever he wills. Who do you reckon gave Satan the kingdoms?

Adam yielded his authority to Satan, as a result, Satan has power on earth.

Deliver- to surrender or yield.

God gave it to Adam, but Adam traded his authority to Satan for a lie.

Jesus doesn’t yield to Satan or His friend’s:

Luke 4:8

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Matthew 16:23

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

There is no time to get snared in Satan’s traps

Both Peter and Satan were trying to get Jesus to focus on temporary kingdoms. You might get caught up in temporary problems, but Jesus said that the offense is a trap, the trap is a temporary promise, and he’s telling Satan to get behind him. What is the trap in front of you?

Jesus came from heaven to earth to give us back our power and our inheritance, so that He can resume His plan of filling the earth with His glory.

Inheritance from God

Satan wants to steal what God has given you. In Christ, God has given us great power and an inheritance, and its important that we understand what we have in Christ:

Ephesians 1:17-19

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.

Throughout the Bible, the people that failed God and received a bad testimony from the scriptures are those, who didn’t care about God’s word, didn’t believe God’s word or were somehow deceived related to God’s word.

  • Adam, was deceived & delivered his power to Satan

  • Esau didn’t care & sold his birthright for a bowl of lentils

  • The 10 spies didn’t believe and said they were grasshoppers in the eyes of the giants

  • Israel cowered in fear and unbelief as Goliath ridiculed God’s people

  • The prodigal son spent his inheritance on prostitutes and pig slop

  • Adam failed but Jesus said, “It is written Satan”

  • Esau sold out but Jacob wrestled with God until finally his name was changed to Israel

  • The 10 grasshoppers died on the other side of Jordan but Joshua and Caleb crossed over and killed giants

  • Israel cowered. But then David showed up and sunk a rock in Goliath’s head and fed his flesh to the birds.

  • The prodigal woke up one day, lost his taste for pig slop and prostitutes and said I’m going home to serve my father and there, unexpectedly, received again his authority with a ring and a robe

Satan tries to convince us that he has something better.

Better wife

Better husband

Better job

Better car

Lies and distractions he uses to get an entry and keep us away from our purpose for God’s kingdom. There are 2 questions that must be asked before making the deal:

  1. How will this affect my eternal inheritance or purpose?

  2. Is this decision consistent with the written word of God

The more time that we spend w/ God, the more sensitive to His Spirit we should be, but if we are already distracted, [RAT w/ a grape] it’s easier for him to slip in and take something that doesn’t belong to him.

Conclusion

2 Kings 9:30-33 what does she think, she can seduce the new king? Isn’t that what the devil does though? Tries the same old tricks. How many times does he get the same person w/ the same thing time and again.

30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. 31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master? 32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. 33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.

The serpent is still looking for an entry. Ahab wants the vineyard. If you won’t give in Jezebel is going to try to kill you to take it. Jesus refused to give up the kingdom of God for an earthly counterfeit. Naboth refused to sell the land. The Eunuch said, “Enough!” And threw her out of the window.

I can’t prove what I’m about to say, but it’s hard for me to believe that at least one of these eunuchs didn’t hear what Jezebel told Ahab her plan to set up Naboth. I believe they heard her wicked plan. I believe they heard the news that Naboth died standing up for the inheritance, and I believe that they were ready for a new king!

Preserving the Judah Seed

Romans 5:1-5 1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Job 23:8-12. 8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: 9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: 10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. 11 My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. 12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

1 Peter 1:3-9

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Too much of us still in us

Luke 10:38-41

38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

Bid- command or tell her

John 21:20-22

Jesus and the Beloved Apostle

20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

Matthew 20:21-22. 21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Genesis 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

Genesis 28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

The Holy Spirit used Paul to say, we glory in tribulations because tribulations in the end bring forth the hope of God. Since He has chosen to use us in spite of our short comings and inadequacies. We have to trust His sovereign hand over the steps of our lives and the various changes that take place on the earth. We must believe that the providence of God is at work on the earth. What seems like famine and despair, trial and tribulation to most is really a springboard of opportunity for God to position His people in the right place at the right time for His will to be done.

We could use the character of Ruth and Naomi as an example. Famine ravaged the land. God’s people the characters in the story left the place of waiting and trusting God to move towards a foreign land of foreign God, which is followed by death, heartache, tragedy. In all of that, they return to Bethlehem and the story says that …her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech. The word can mean chance or providence. You choose how you want to see it. I know how I see it. I see the providential hand of God moving in all the circumstances both good and bad. He’s orchestrating circumstances and events to bring the world to the place He wants it to be and to position His people in the time and place that He wants them to be so that through them, He will accomplish His will through their lives.

In my mind, the individual lives of believers provide the individual moving parts of a symphony that moves the story of an opera. There are words that describe the harmonious relationship of sounds that move the music. There are words that describe slowing down, speeding up, sadness, happiness, but whatever the movement, they all seem to work in harmony together to move the purpose of the conductor towards an intended end. To move the work from a starting point to an end. All the various pieces of the orchestra are working in unison or harmony to bring the symphony to a successful end of what the composer intended.

One word that I did not find used in the dictionary of musical terms was Cacophony. This words origins was borrowed from the Greek Kakos meaning bad. Specifically there was a Greek word used in the American dictionary that I looked cacophony up in and the word was cacodemon—Bad. There is no place in a symphony for cacophony because the purpose is pleasantry not disappointment.

With that concept in mind, we tackle the thought of God’s plan as a symphony. The composer and conductor has a plan for a beginning and an end and the symphony is intended to be a harmonious work of multiple parts playing in unison.

Within the work there is both trial and tribulation. Within the work, there is tragedy and triumph, but what is not purposefully written within the work is cacophony. Let’s call it in God’s symphony an act of rebellion. It may be rebellion incited by deception. We may not have known that the move we were about to make would be an act that would move one of the pieces of God outside of the will of His symphony, but it does.

It’s not like He can’t replace the position. He can find another cello player or replace someone in the brass section. But He did have a specific plan for that particular French horn player who kept getting the same Charlie horse in his leg over and over and over again and finally through his repeated acts of discord and cacophony found himself no longer in the orchestra and no longer in the movement of the symphony of God. He or she may have thought that they happily joined another symphony but it’s not the symphony of God. It has a different composer and conductor altogether. It’s a plagiarized work that looks close to the original but it’s not the plan that God originated.

So there is a symphony of God and because of the cacophony of sinful rebellion injected into the opera, there are times of trial and tribulation that speed up or slow down the work in order to bring the pieces back into harmony.

The story of Judah is cacophony. God had already told the family through great grandpa Abraham not to marry a Canaanite and then grandpa Isaac told Judah’s daddy the same thing. So Judah’s decision to take Shua the Canaanite to wife was a direct Cacophany to the symphony of God. Let’s just talk Bible terms now. It was rebellion against God’s word. And it’s a big deal because it’s messing up God’s plan.

But you go on Judah, Christian, whatever your name is—Pastor. You do it your way and step outside of God’s will and then we will watch a succession of seed spilling and God’s plan being thrown upon the earth like it’s absolutely meaningless because it’s been placed in the hands of people who right now in their walk think they’re good but are more concerned about their own well being and happiness than they are the plan of God that they treat the seed of God with contempt.

Wow Judah is Judas (Matt 1:2,3). Judah sells Joseph for 20 pieces of silver and Judas sells Jesus for 30 pieces!! Wow, when praise don’t act right it results in prison but when it does it opens prison doors— Paul and Silas.

Another very interesting thing about this Judah story is the location of its placement within God’s overall movement of the story. If it were not for this story’s seemingly cacophonous interruption, there would be nine chapters solely dedicated to the story of Joseph and his seemingly unwarranted trials and tribulations.

Anyway, back to trials and tribulations sometimes trials and tribulations make no sense. There are those times where we know that we made wrong decisions or blatantly sinned and opened doors that caused us to venture down a wrong road but then we see the stories of Joseph and Job and we wonder— why Lord? Why is it that sometimes your people who love you have to face these trials and tribulations in life?

And then we add to the fact the thought of Romans 5 and hupomonae—we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope.

Then Job’s words “when he has tried me I shall come forth as gold” and the Peter’s words: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

And now I see Joseph juxtaposed or contrasted with Judah. Judah grabs a Canaanite woman and Joseph releases dreams from God about God’s plans for the future. Judah’s offspring spill their seed on the ground and Judah sells his brother to a band of Ishmaelites. Joseph runs from Potopher’s wife and Judah lies with what he thinks is a prostitute.

And Joseph goes through the trial and remains under in a God honoring way. He doesn’t understand. He just remains faithful to His God. He is propelled through the trial to a position. He is given an anointing by God to interpret dreams. His gift puts him in a position of prominence and his position results in the saving of a multitude. He states to his brothers:

And so that’s the extent of what Joseph was allowed to see regarding his trial. He was allowed to see that God used him to -reserve food in the midst of a famine. He was allowed to see that God saved multiple people from multiple nations. Maybe that was the prophetic meaning of the coat of many colors that he wore as a young boy I don’t know. He was even able to see how the prophetic dream that he was given in a way as a young man made more sense now as his brothers and dad in a sense bowed to him now that he had power to save them. But what he was not able to see was that hidden in the midst of the Israelites that would multiply in the land of Goshen was a prospering seed that had been preserved. A seed that came from the firstborn twin of Tamar and Judah his name was Pharez and Pharez and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias; And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias; And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon: And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel; And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor; And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ
